At BrightStar Franchising, we know how overwhelming the responsibility of caring for a family member can be. Our founder and CEO, Shelly Sun, began her journey in 2001 after having a personal experience looking for quality, trustworthy care for “Grandma Pat.”

After Grandma Pat passed away, Shelly spent time reflecting on what she was originally looking for all along – a caring company that offered 24/7 service and the full range of non-medical and medical care. She knew that families looking for care deserved more, which is what led to the creation of BrightStar Care® in 2002.

In 2005, Shelly was experiencing great success with the first BrightStar Care location in Gurnee, IL, and was toying with the idea of expanding the company through franchising. After careful validation of the business model at two other company-owned locations, BrightStar Care opened its first franchise location in 2006.

Our Mission

The need to find quality care that was more dependable, more supportive, and more complete is what compelled Shelly to found BrightStar Care. Our mission is to provide a full continuum of home health care for people of all ages – from infants to seniors - as well as medical staffing services for healthcare facilities.

In over a decade, BrightStar Care has grown to over 360 locations nationwide and cultivated a legacy of delivering superior care for thousands of families in their homes across the country. We understand better than anyone the significance and connection that “home” represents. So, when we saw a need for those with health needs beyond what was possible within the traditional home setting, our BrightStar team knew we could provide care that empowers our clients to live well at every stage of life and in every setting, and gives them, their families, and their loved ones the support they need to get the most out of life.
