Turning a Calling for Helping People Into Community-Centric Care

Yonette Harry

After more than 20 years as a medical assistant, Yonette Harry chose BrightStar Care to expand the role she has always lived, caring for others. Now, she is building something more visible and lasting, with a clear goal of becoming a beacon for care in her community.

A Foundation Built on Care

Long before opening her BrightStar Care location, Yonette’s path was shaped by caregiving. As the eldest of six siblings, she naturally stepped into a role of responsibility early on, and caring for others was part of who she was.

After moving to the United States from Guyana, she spent more than two decades working as a medical assistant across major hospital systems. From supporting elderly patients navigating cardiac procedures, she built lasting relationships and developed a deep understanding of what quality care should feel like.

After years in healthcare, however, Yonette began to feel a sense of plateau. She still loved the work, but she wanted to create something more meaningful for her community, her family, and herself.

Why BrightStar Care Stood Out

As Yonette began researching home care, BrightStar Care immediately stood out. Having previously worked with a BrightStar Care location, she already understood the standard of care and the environment it created, and it “felt like a sign.”

Yonette initially questioned how she would navigate it all, describing the feeling as being “in a small little boat in a huge sea.” What shifted her perspective was the level of support she encountered at BrightStar Care. From early conversations with the team to ongoing connections with other owners, she saw a model built on guidance and mentorship.

With nearby owners, Yonette quickly experienced a collaborative and responsive network. Even before opening, she was able to lean on neighboring locations for guidance and client referrals, reinforcing a culture built on mentorship rather than competition.

Becoming a Lighthouse in the Community

Yonette’s vision for her BrightStar Care location goes beyond day-to-day operations. She wants to build something people can recognize, trust, and turn to when they need support most.

“I’m looking forward to BrightStar Care of Douglasville becoming a beacon, a lighthouse in the community,” Yonette says.

As she prepares to open her location, Yonette is already building the foundation of her business through establishing a culture centered on serving with care and excellence. That mindset comes directly from her years in healthcare, where she often reminded others that the word “care” carries weight.

Beyond internal culture, Yonette is focused on being present in the community she serves. She plans to show up, connect, and become a familiar face through local Chambers of Commerce, community events, or simply being visible and approachable day to day.

Building for the Future

Yonette Harry’s journey is rooted in more than 20 years of hands-on care. Now with BrightStar Care, she is building a business that supports her family while becoming a visible, reliable lighthouse for others in her community.
